Blue Bell MINI boosts Alzheimer’s charity cycle ride

Fundraising cyclists from Crewe and Nantwich will be backed by a BMW and MINI support vehicle this Sunday thanks to sponsorship from the Blue Bell dealership in Crewe.

The annual “Alzheimer’s 100” fundraiser sees riders support the Alzheimer’s Society, the organisation that is leading the fight against dementia.

Darren Greatbanks, a British Transport Policeman from Crewe, lost his father to the illness in 2014. He quickly established the event with close friend Andy Williams, hoping to raise awareness and also funds towards research into the condition.

Now in its third year, the organisers are set to break fundraising records. Darren said: “Over two years we have raised nearly £70,000 which is a terrific achievement. But we have already filled the 250 sponsorship places, another first, so we’re very hopeful that we will top the magical £100,000 mark this summer.”

Phil Brown, Blue Bell Sales Director, is delighted to partner the ALZ100 fundraiser. He said: “Blue Bell Crewe are once again proud to support to the Alzheimer’s 100 Charity Cycle Event. The Alzheimer’s Society is a fantastic charity, providing support both locally and nationally. We would like to wish all participants the best of luck and I am sure the event will be another enormous success”

Riders will set out from Nantwich War Memorial in the town centre on Sunday 12th June. They will tackle distances of 25, 55 and 100 miles long, depending upon age and ability. Supporters are encouraged to watch the riders from a safe distance at all points around the routes.

Riders, friends and family will meet to celebrate the ride in the evening at the White Horse pub in Nantwich. The fundraising will continue with a series of events, raffles and an auction, before the Electro 80s band entertains the crowd.
